Calling All Who Would Like to Help Put a Smile on a Child’s Face

Volunteer Drive for Little Smiles of North Carolina

Who We Are

“Little Smiles” is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that provides toys, games, DVD’s, computers, VIP outings, celebrity meet and greets, concert, sporting event tickets, theme park tickets, fun food runs, nerf gun wars and much, much more…for children in local hospitals, hospices and shelters. We pride ourselves on being local, immediate, and hands on; and our Board of Directors is comprised of all volunteers.

Why We Are Unique and Distinctive...
We Are Local
We Are Immediate
We Are HANDS-ON

We work side by side with local nurses, child life staff, and medical personnel who determine the immediate needs for each child and family. Little Smiles views the staff who treat the children not only as our partners but as the 'angels' who know the kids, the parents and each special circumstance. We consult with them directly and therefore are able to provide what is needed most. We also interact directly with the kids. Buying a game for a child is wonderful, but playing the game with that child is priceless!

Our Mission

Our mission is to help children escape their everyday pain and allow them to be a kid again, even if it’s for a short period of time. We respond to the needs of the children and provide whatever we can to make their day a little brighter. We help put a smile back on the faces of children who need it most.

If you’re interested in joining our group come to the information meeting on February 3 at 6:30 at the Pelican Café in Cornelius, NC.  RSVP at littlesmiles30@yahoo.com , leaving your name and email address. Just ask for Little Smiles to learn how you can help put a smile on a child’s face.

Barium Springs Childrens Home School Supplies Drive

July 31, 2011
Category: Philanthropy

As the school year nears, the Barium Springs Childrens Home needs help with supplies for the kids. Children of all ages reside here. Please think about the items that a child would need to learn with and purchase a few. You can drop off at The Nook Coffee Bar and Eatery in Huntersville (located behind Hickory Tavern near Birkdale). The list would include items such as black ink pens, spiral notebooks, 2 pocket folders, crayons, construction paper, playdoh, calculators, mechanical pencils, 3 ring binders and dividers, washable markers, glue sticks, poster board, colored pencils, index cards, flash drives, book bags, kid safe scissors, etc.

There are also infants and toddlers here, so items such as diapers, fruit or vegetable baby food, wipes, bibs, socks, children's books, receiving blankets, etc.

As you can see, the list is long and it is a good cause. I have attached a sheet to show a complete list as well as contact names/numbers. This is a great cause and every cent you spend goes directly to the kids!

Thanks everyone!

Michael Scott Mater Foundation - a local non-profit competing for 250K in the Pepsi Refresh Challenge

September 21, 2010
Category: Events

Michael Scott Mater Foundation (MSMF) located in Charlotte is currently in the running for the 250K category in the Pepsi Refresh Project for this month.  A win would grant us $250,000 to support our Youth Empowerment Assistance Program (YEAP) – which is a four week vocational training program that will teach Charlotte’s inner city youth about leadership, marketing, business development, IT/PC configuration, networking skill, customer service, and communications skills.  Students will be mentored by professionals from the local community and upon completion of the program, graduates will be placed in paid internships and local employment where they will practice and enhance the skills they have acquired.

Pepsi Refresh Project grants are awarded to those organizations that receive the highest number of votes from the public. With over 1,200 total contestants and only two winners awarded in each category, the competition is fierce!

Voting is simple and we need your vote – daily – to help us win the Pepsi Refresh Project.

How to vote:

Visit www.refresheverything.com/yeap and click “Vote for this idea”.

To text vote: Text 102573 to Pepsi (73774).

You can help us spread the word by asking everyone you know—share this email with co-workers, friends and family, Facebook and Twitter—to help MSMF create opportunities for our young people!

Visit our website, msmf.org, to find out more about the Michael Scott Mater Foundation.

The Humane Society of Charlotte is looking for someone to donate a bistro style table for use in our events!  We regularly participate in festivals, trade shows, and other events and need a high top, round table to compliment our setup!  We have had to cut back on expenditures like these and if someone would like to donate this we would put it to good use.  We have a tablecloth to put on it so condition is not an issue for us!  We can provide a receipt for tax purposes.  Please contact Heather - communityoutreach@humanesocietyofcharlotte.org.

Thanks for helping our sweet furry faces!
