Xtreme Hike for a Cure to Cystic Fibrosis

Three years ago my husband joined some friends on the journey of a lifetime by becoming involved with the Xtreme Hike to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.   I've never been more inspired by the families, friends, and volunteers of this organization. Now it's my turn to help and time to climb that mountain.  The Xtreme Hike is a physical challenge (30.1 miles in one day!) focused on exceeding ones limits and supporting critical research for a cure to cystic fibrosis.  I've been touched by the beautiful enthusiasm of the children and the unwavering determination of their parents to provide a rich and bountiful life for their children.  The hike gives hope to those who may never get to experience what you and I take for granted every day.  The event demonstrates to the parents and loved ones that we truly care and want to end their struggle with this disease.  No more breathing devices, no more vibrating vests, and no surgery, those are the goals.  To achieve success, the foundation needs funding and that's where YOU come in. Funding over the years has been successful in bringing about treatment options which have extended the life expectancy, but it is still too young.  Let's show some support and put an end to this disease.  Let's give the children a chance at a long, happy life.  Please donate today.  Be a hero, be a champion, be a supporter!

Peek-A-Boo Couture Hosts Spring Fashion Show- Donates to St. Jude's

Press Release

April 25, 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Peek-A-Boo Couture Hosts Spring Fashion Show

Peek-A-Boo Couture is hosting the largest kid and teen fashion show held in North Carolina this May. Nearly fifty models will walk the runway at Mooresville High School and a portion of the proceeds will go to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  Store owner Candace Khashman says her own battle with cancer motivated her to choose St. Jude’s as the charity for the event.

The theme for the show, Rockin’ the Runway, exemplifies Peek-A-Boo’s philosophy. “It’s going to be off the chain”, Khashman explains. “We are very excited about this event. All of the models participating are fantastic and the outfits they have chosen really show off each kid’s individual personality.” There are over sixty looks in the fashion show, worn by models ranging from ages 2 to 16. Couture Specialists from the boutique worked individually with each model to select the perfect outfits for the event.

Rockin’ the Runway is the second show in a month featuring Peek-A-Boo Couture collections. Child and teen models sported vintage inspired styles as they walked the runway last Saturday evening at the NC Music Factory for the Charlotte SEEN Passport for Fashion event. The show featured over ten one of a kind looks from Peek-A-Boo Couture’s collections.

Over a dozen vendors are participating in the event including Barbizon Modeling, Kaycees Kitchen Catering, Thirty-One Gifts, and Bows Cote. The doors will open at 3pm and the show will begin at 4:00. Tickets are on sale at www.peekaboocouture.org and will also be available at the door. Peek-A-Boo Couture is still accepting models for this event. The boutique is also looking for volunteers to help with event set up and event operations during the show. To volunteer or to register as a model, call 704.987.7776.

Red Rider Classic in Memory of Brett Morgan

April 21, 2013
Category: Philanthropy

Brett Morgan was an avid cyclist, devoted husband and father and was deeply committed and passionate about helping others.  He worked with many charities,  and 24 Hours of Booty combined his love of cycling with his passion for making a difference.  In January 2012, Brett was tragically killed while walking to work.  At the time, he had envisioned and was making plans to hold a fundraising event for his 24 Hours of Booty team- Team Impact- at the newly opened Giordana velodrome in Rock Hill.

Brett had also become passionate about supporting a young girl fighting cancer, Isabella Santos.  Isabella inspired Brett, as she had done others, by bravely fighting the disease in the face of long odds.  Despite ultimately succumbing to her multi-year battle, the memory of Isabella Santos inspires us as well.  Brett understood the ultimate price that some cancer victims and their families pay.  Brett would want us to fight on and we shall.

Although the velodrome event did not come together in 2012, his family and friends donated to 24 Hours of Booty in his memory, making Brett one of the top fundraisers in 2012!  Brett would have been so proud.

His team, family and friends are working hard to make Brett's vision a reality and a yearly tradition, beginning this year.  Thus, the "Red Rider Classic in Memory of Brett Morgan" will take place at the Giordana velodrome on May 18, 2012, much as he had originally envisioned it.  The name of the event celebrates Brett' s love of his alma mater, Texas Tech, the Red Raiders. This event will bring together his family, friends, teammates and the cycling community to celebrate his life while raising funds for a cause that meant so much to him.

If I have contacted you about my project already please forgive this message. However, I am working hard to gain support.

My project is “The Right Side of History” and is a Civil/Equal Rights movement. I have started a crowd sourcing campaign on Indiegogo to raise the funds to make this happen. I am pleading for your assistance. Please go to the project, watch the video, and read everything I plan to do. Support it if you are able. Any amount will help but be sure to read the perks on the left side of the screen. If nothing else, will you please post a link to my project on your Facebook wall, Twitter feed, Google+ stream, blogs, etc. Talk about the project to everyone. Help celebrate The Experience Summer Tour benefiting The Sandbox!

We bet you all remember the teen mentors who helped us at Prom 2011.The Experience is a high school touring choir from Christ Lutheran Church comprised of 90+ teens from 18 high schools in the Charlotte area. Their mission is to, Tell the Story, and they do that through contemporary music, choreography, drama and media. The 2012 week long summer tour through SC, GA and FL will will benefit The Sandbox.

The Experience began its partnership with The Sandbox in 2011 serving as mentors/escorts at their inaugural prom, 'An Evening of Stars'. They continued that partnership with a canned food drive at Thanksgiving and at their annual Christmas show, they raised over $2000 that was used to purchase gifts for Sandbox families.

So far In 2012, with the support of their congregation, they were able to fill 85 Easter baskets and help deliver them to children hospitalized in the Charlotte area. More than 60 of these teens have volunteered to serve at The Sandbox 2012 prom, 'An Evening of Believing'.
